Any album that takes its title from a Keith Richards quote (Friction, baby was his response to an interviewer asking him what the secret was behind the durability of his partnership with Mick Jagger) already has a lot going for it and carries a sense of responsibility to honor the legacy of the Glimmer Twins. Luckily, this 1996 album from the beloved New Orleans alternative rock band Better Than Ezra doesnt mess around. After their success with Deluxe, BTE finally had a proper recording budget, and with producer Don Gehman (known for working with R.E.M. and Hootie and the Blowfish), they skillfully blended songwriter Kevin Griffins Southern charm with the powerful guitar sounds of the time, creating a college radio favorite led by hits like King of New Orleans and Desperately Wanting. The album comes on tan vinyl with a hidden track and includes a printed inner sleeve. Fully approved by the bandEzralites, rejoice!
