There are many new features regarding the English band VirginVampires(sister ofPink Panther Project) in this second album Whores And Judaism, the transition to theRune Serpent Europalabel and a strong change of style: every form of electronics has been abandoned for a return to classic gothic and finally Uela also has her vocal parts, alternating with the two male ones, in a complete and compact mix.
To underline the power of the album we find the featuring ofLisa HammerofRequiem In White. The 11 songs crumble powerfully in a row one after the other, post-punk rhythms, razor-sharp guitars and a truly 80s atmosphere. Several hits Caligulae Insanus Imperator with Latin lyrics opens the crude dance with its powerful delirious pace. The catacomb dances continue with the two versions ofMartyrdoms And Crucifixions IandII, which reveal the consistency of an album that is often blasphemous and with anti-Christian themes with the introduction: Shes a whore and on the story of a whore they built an entire Religion.
At The Cemetery tells of a party in a cemetery, a pogo piece, marked by a death bell, already present on some compilations and destined to become a real hit. Are They Real Or just Me? has a psychopathic text and a very British gait, almost reminiscent of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. Also noteworthy are Tibet with text in Indian and Beautiful with Lisa Hammer, a song that was meant to be only instrumental, embellished by the powerful voice of the American singer, perfect in this part of the album. Also noteworthy is Medusa which remains faithful to the trademark of the album with a very powerful voice and a catchy chorus.
The album closes with I Feel Dead Here, almost Arabic, desert-like, with guitars and an atmosphere that recalls the bestRozz WilliamsandChristian Death. What can I say, for those who will have the chance to come across this album: its a sure hit! You cant help but immediately notice its freshness, its aggressiveness and its maturity. There isnt a single phase that is subdued or that doesnt reflect the album in its total core, a milestone for the post-punk gothic genre of our times. A pleasant contemporary dive into the past.
