Forevernevermore is Moodymann at his most immersive: loose but never lazy, soulful without turning soft, and deeply tied to the feel of Detroit. Rather than sounding like a tidy studio statement, it plays like a lived-in collage of deep house, techno, disco memory, street noise, film dialogue and emotional residue. What makes it so strong is the way Kenny Dixon Jr. lets groove and atmosphere do the storytelling. The album keeps pulling you into its world without ever feeling the need to explain itself, and that mystery is a huge part of its power. It was originally released in 2000, and later commentary has treated it as one of the key records in his catalogue and a major Detroit deep house statement.

The best thing about Forevernevermore is how human it feels.
