Recorded at Rick Rubin's Chapel in Siena in September 2024, pianist Julius Asal presents a striking blend of French impressionism and new improvisationalwork. Siena Tapes brings together the shimmering piano miniatures of Maurice Ravel with Asal's own spontaneous creations and a specially commissioned new work by Christian Badzura. The album interweaves Ravel's celebrated Prludes, character pieces and Jeux d'eau with Asal's three flowing Cascade improvisations, and Badzura's Petites Vagues. The result is a unique soundscape - at once rooted in tradition and reaching towards new sonic possibilities - highlighting Asal's sensitivity, imagination, and virtuoso command of colour.
