'Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance' is the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2010's 'Write About Love'. Recorded and mixed at Maze Studios in Atlanta by Ben H. Allen III, known for his work with Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective, and Raury, among others, the bandwho've been inspired by vintage Detroit techno and Giorgio Moroderhave infused their beautiful stories of sensitive souls navigating a topsy-turvy world with a lively dance-party vibe. This might just be the most creative and expansive album Belle and Sebastian have ever made.
Since band leader Stuart Murdoch has openly embraced bubblegum pop in the past, its no surprise that songs like Enter Sylvia Plath, The Book Of You, and Play For Today feature keyboard hooks reminiscent of Scandinavian pop influences, both old and new. Dont worrythose classic cinematic loves, kitchen sink imagery, and baroque touches are still very much present. It all comes down to trusting in the healing magic of pop music. If anyone could craft a fantastic Europop song about Sylvia Plath, its Belle & Sebastian.
