Originally released in 1995, Alice in Chains is the band's self-titled third studio album and the final full-length studio recording to feature vocalist Layne Staley. The record marked a shift toward slower tempos, denser arrangements, and a more inward-looking tone, balancing heavy, sludged-out riffs with acoustic passages and stark melodic restraint. Often referred to as the "Tripod" album due to its cover artwork - Kinney suggested the album title "Tripod", referencing a dog that had chased him as a child when he was a paperboy - the record includes key tracks such as "Grind", "Heaven Beside You", "Again", and the closing "Over Now".
