Rooted in the industrial grit of New Jersey and shaped by years embedded in the Austin underground, their sound fuses dark, mechanical textures with a distinctly playful and off-kilter sensibility-equal parts menace and mischief. Produced and recorded by Ty Segall at his home studio in Topanga, California, the album benefits from a raw but focused production that lets each idea hit hard without sanding down its edges. This is Chairlegs' third full-length release, and it plays like a band fully aware of what they do best: tight, propulsive songs that balance heaviness with humour, abrasion with melody. Frontwoman Lindsey Mackin is joined here by Nick Cornetti on drums and Derek Strahan on bass, locking into a rhythm section that gives the songs both punch and momentum. Having shared stages with The Zombies, Lucy Dacus, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre - and lit up festivals including Austin City Limits, SXSW, Levitation, and Austin Psych Fest - Waking Up feels like a natural progression rather than a reinvention: confident, restless, and unapologetically itself.
