Mitski recorded Laurel Hell with her longtime producer Patrick Hyland during the isolating times of a global pandemic, a period that gently transformed some of the songs meanings, like seeds blooming into flowers. Sometimes, its tough to notice how we change when were the ones experiencing it, but for the rest of us, Mitski has created a beautiful soundtrack for transformation. Its a gentle guide to a space where vulnerability, resilience, sorrow, delight, mistakes, and transcendence all coexist within our shared humanity.
