From the first bars of HEAL, 'Goshen '97' immerses you in Tim Showalter's teenage fervor, set in his family's Goshen, IN basement. Despite feeling alienated, he believed in music's healing power. 'HEAL' is a cathartic, personal record, like scream therapy, reflecting him confronting his subconscious. Showalter was on tour in Malmo, Sweden, when personal crises spurred him to write HEAL, including marriage issues, disappointment in his previous album, and feeling unfulfilled. He wrote 30 songs in three weeks, blending '70s-'90s rock and pop with electronic elements, aided by producer John Congleton, keyboardist Ben Vehorn, and drummer Steve Clements. Songs like 'Shut In' and 'Plymouth' evoke '70s power-pop and Big Stars ache, with electrifying energy. The album's influences range from Dinosaur Jr to Jason Molina, reflected in the epic 'JM' about finding comfort in music during hard times. During mixing, Showalter survived a severe car accident with his wife on Christmas Day, which drastically altered the album's tone to a more cathartic, fearless sound. HEAL signifies musical and personal renewal, with Showalter finally ready to perform with a full band, fulfilling his childhood dream of being a rock star, celebrating a fresh chapter in Strand Of Oaks' journey.
