The New York City-based Trans-Siberian Orchestra debuted with Christmas Eve and Other Stories in 1996. The album brought together talented artists from the hard rock, Broadway musical, and classical arenas to create a unique sound for the holiday season. By combining a 60-piece orchestra and a full chorus with the edge of a rock band, the triple platinum album was a breakthrough success. The album's most popular track, "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24," became a best-seller. Christmas Eve and Other Stories was the first album in the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas trilogy, followed by The Christmas Attic (1998) and The Lost Christmas Eve (2004).
